The Bodhran - Adding a bit of Irish Flair
May 31st, 2008
I had a friend who was looking for a new percussion sound for her band. She liked to try new and different things because it added to her unique sound. She tried a few drums from the Middle East and Asia but it didn’t quite give her what she wanted. It was suggested that maybe she could try a bodhran drum. It’s an Irish frame drum that has a synthetic head on one end and is open ended on the other, which is for one hand to control the pitch and timbre. She searched around until she found one she was comfortable with and added it to her band. She loved the sound and uses it often in her music.
