Fine Art Portraiture begins with the intent - Intention of the subject to cooperate and the intention of the artist to apply his 100% skills. What does it take to produce a Fine Art Portrait? There are lots of possible answers to this question than simply making a number of exposures.
According to professional portrait artists, perfect fine art portraits primarily require knowledge of the subject(s) and this is usually gained during the interview/consultation. Secondly, the intricate process of creating a fine art portrait requires thoughtful planning and preparation, utilizing the knowledge gained in the interview, and your personal artistic vision. Since most fine art portraits start with photos, skill in the use of lighting and camera must be applied. During picture taking, the photographer must take care of guiding the subject(s) into poses that convey the mood sought, or that add to the portrayal of personality. Simply put, Time, Patience, and Expertise in using all available tools and materials are the basic requirements in turning ordinary photos into perfect fine art portraits.
