Counting Coleman pop up campers got us into trouble.
January 3rd, 2008
My family is made up of some very competitive people. We can turn anything into a game in which someone has to win. One summer, while traveling across the country for vacation, we came across a campground. There were quite a few Coleman pop up campers parked in the campground. My father said that he wondered how many pop up campers were parked in the campground. That’s all it took. Each person guessed a number, and we turned around so that we would be able to count them and see who’s guess came closest to the actual number. We are also avid birdwatchers, so we always have at least one pair of binnoculars with us. In order to get an accurate number of pop up campers, we got the binnoculars out. We didn’t want to miss any that were barely visible to the naked eye. A cop stopped and asked what we were doing. When we explained, he didn’t find the story amusing, nor did he believe a word of it. Our entire family was taken to the police station for questioning. We were being interrogated by officers, when another officer came into the station and reported that they had found the right guy. Someone had been peeping into campers at the campground for weeks. When the officer stopped us, he thought we were the ones who had been terrorizing the campers. After a camper called police, and they were able to catch the guy in the act, we were let go and able to continue our vacation.
